Laurence J Miller
Laurence J. Miller, M.D. is Professor of Medicine and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He trained at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine and Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, with post-doctoral training in Cell Biology at Yale University. His clinical activities are in pancreatology and gastroenterology. His investigative interests are in Gastrointestinal Endocrinology, with focus on GPCR structure, function, and regulation, and management of obesity and metabolic disease. Dr. Miller’s most novel contributions utilize photochemical and fluorescent approaches to the molecular basis of ligand-receptor interaction, receptor activation, and receptor regulation, with relevance to the rational design of receptor-active drugs. He has had administrative responsibilities to build a Molecular Medicine Program at Mayo Rochester, and to direct the Cancer Center, lead Research, and sit on the Executive Board at Mayo Arizona. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians, and was the President of the American Pancreatic Association. His work has been funded continually by the NIH, including a Merit Award. He is an editor or a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Biological Chemistry, Molecular Pharmacology, American Journal of Physiology, Gastroenterology, and Pancreas.
